Four Florida residents were forced to dive into the water from a 36ft yacht when thousands of bees suddenly descended and started building a hive on board.

Lynn Burton was on her boat in the Indian River Lagoon near Melbourne, Florida with three friends enjoying a quiet day on the water.

All four jumped in the water and watched as the bees built a huge hive.

Once the bees calmed down Lynn says she boarded the boat, picked up her phone and called for help.

The Melbourne Fire Department was first to arrive.

The U.S. Coast Guard and more Melbourne units met the boat as was taken back in to harbour.

No one was injured.
