BluQube to sponsor solo campaign
Budding solo sailor Katie Miller today announced that financial software company BluQube are to sponsor her singlehanded offshore racing campaign in her Figaro II, BluQube.
Miller is to compete in the OSTAR transatlantic race, which starts from Plymouth on May 25th, and will the the youngest female entrant in the race’s 49-year history. She also intends to compete in the Figaro European championships next year.
In a ceremony at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club, the pontoons groaning under the weight of the assembled journalists, supporters and camera crews, Miller thanked her new sponsor – who incidentally also sponsored Steve White’s Vendée Globe campaign. The boat’s ‘godmother’, Dee Caffari, fresh from the finish of her own Vendée Globe campaign in Les Sables d’Olonne, officially named the boat with a bottle of champagne as other luminaries, including Dame Ellen MacArthur, looked on.
