Cowes Harbour Commission is currently seeking applications from interested persons for three appointments as Harbour Commissioner.

Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) is a Trust Port and the statutory harbour authority for Cowes Harbour. CHC also provide moorings and marine services on a competitive commercial basis.

The Commission is managed by an independent board of nine Commissioners and a Harbour Master/Chief Executive Officer. The staggered appointment procedures set out in the constitution to ensure continuity, leads to the Commission seeking applications for three appointments as Harbour Commissioner.

Harbour Master and Chief Executive Captain Stuart McIntosh, commenting on the importance of the Commissioners, said: “A strong and independent board of Commissioners who add ‘real value’ from their personal and professional experience, is vital to the future development of a modern customer focused Harbour Commission. The Commissioners set the policy and oversee the management of the delivery of the dual functions of the statutory harbour authority and provider of marine services.

“I believe that in these challenging times a modern, forward thinking Harbour Commission will play an important role in shaping the future prosperity of not only Cowes, East and West but also for the Island community as a whole.”

Cowes Harbour and the River Medina is currently in an exciting and challenging phase of its development and the Commissioners will play an important part in shaping the future of the harbour and services. The Commission considers the continued successful management of the harbour as fundamental to the future prosperity of Cowes and the Island.

CHC wishes to attract applications from candidates with enthusiasm, relevant experience and expertise that can add ‘real value’ to the current board. The following skills and experience have been identified as being beneficial to the current board but should not be prescriptive; financial management, conservation/environmental, legal expertise, personnel/training, and safety and security.
