A dramatic rescue after a boat theft four years ago left one teenager so full of remorse for his actions, he undertook a year-long walk around the UK to raise funds to pay for the rescues he caused.

In May 2004, 15-year-old Seb Green and another teenager stole a RIB in Weymouth harbour. When the boat went aground nearby, both boys had to be rescued by helicopter after an attempt to get ashore left one of them stuck waist deep in the mud.

Speaking to local reporters, Seb, who is from Weymouth, spoke of how his life had changed because of the incident and that repaying the community for the cost of the rescue has made him feel less guilty.

He hopes to raise £20,000 for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Starlight Children’s Foundation, a charity which grants the wishes of seriously and terminally ill children and provides hospital entertainment.

Having left Dorset in February, Seb is now in Plymouth and plans to complete his 3,000-mile trek and be back in Dorset before Christmas.
