Tornado chasers on alert as 82mph gust recorded at Berry Head, Devon

Severe weather has caused mayhem along the UK coast today, with Coastguards battling to save a tanker off Bembridge, RNLI evactuating residents from a Selsey Caravan park and the British tornado research organisation TORRO issuing a tornado watch for the whole of the south of England.

Tanker adrift
The Astral, a Swedish registered tanker dragged anchor and went aground off the east end of the Isle of Wight last night. Bembridge lifeboat and several tugs responded to an emergency call and the tanker was towed to Fawley.

Selsey rescue
The defences at Selsey West Sands Caravan Park were reportedly breached at 1pm, when Coastguard rescue teams, Sussex Police and fire and rescue set to work evacuating up to 30 residents.
