Colourfully decorated working boats will be open to the public this weekend at the Historic Working Boat Gathering at the Black Country Living Museum near Birmingham.

On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September, visitors are invited to discover life afloat a traditional working narrow boat, watch historic working boats in action with cargoes being trans-shipped, fender making demonstrations, canal art and children’s canal crafts in the school.

Enthusiasts and visitors can navigate their way along the emerald green waterway of the narrow 3,000-yard-long Dudley Tunnel, containing limestone caverns such as Little Tess and the famous Singing Cavern.

Traditional catering includes fish and chips from the 1930s Fried Fish Shop – all washed down with a pint of real ale from the Bottle and Glass Inn.
