HMRC comments: ‘The derogations permitting the application of reduced rates on fuel used by private pleasure boats and for private pleasure flying expired on 31 December 2006. HMRC have been discussing with various representative organisations of both sectors ways of implementing the new regime which will both minimise the longer term compliance burden. These discussions have informed the consultation documents which have been published today.

‘As announced at the recent Budget, our timetable for implementing the new regime is 1 November 2008, and until then the current arrangements for private pleasure boat owners and private pleasure flying will continue.’
