The Luno Spanish-flagged cargo ship has sunk close to a beach after striking a sea wall
A Spanish cargo ship was split in two when it lost power and huge waves smashed it against a sea wall.
The 3446-tonne Luno got into difficulties south-west of Bayonne, France amid 68mph winds on Wednesday.
Rough
weather condition caused the ship to have engine failure and it broke in two and sank just a few metres away
from a beach.
Two helicopters airlifted the dozen other crew members to safety.
French authorities launched an anti-maritime pollution plan when an oil leak was spotted around the sunken vessel.
