A ship has arrived in Caithness to begin a controversial survey of the Trident fishing trawler, which mysteriously sank in 1974. The survey vessel, Fennica, will examine the wreck of the Trident as part of an inquiry comissioned by the Department of Transport and the advocate general. During the underwater survey, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) will be used to examine the Trident. Once all the evidence is gathered a formal inquiry will take place at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Relatives of the dead crewmen have strongly voiced their opposition to the survey, claiming that cutting holes in the 28m (86ft) vessel will desecrate the mens’ graves.
