The owner and captain of a boat which capsized in Bahrain last March, killing 58 passengers including 15 Britons, have appeared in court.
Owner Abdullah al-Qubaisi and captain Rajendrakumar Ramjibhai are facing serious criminal charges at the Lower Criminal Court, Bahrain.
The dhow was carrying roughly 120 people when it capsized, most of whom were employees of South-African construction firm Murray and Roberts, who were holding a party to celebrate the completion of part of the Bahrain World Trade Centre towers project.
Solicitor Clive Garner is representing relatives of the British victims. He said that: ‘questions do need to be answered by those who organised this event.’
The case was adjourned until 1 July to give defence lawyers time to prepare their case.
