Dee Caffari, the first woman to sail the wrong-way solo around the globe, will arrive at Southampton on Sunday for celebrations.

The 33-year-old former teacher crossed the finish line off Lizard Point at 1755 on Thursday, setting a new world record for her 29,100-mile voyage against prevailing winds and currents. Her time of 178 days, 3 hours, 6 minutes and 15 seconds was ratified by an observer from the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC).

Dee, in her 72ft yacht Aviva, is now making her way to Southampton where, on Sunday, the public are invited to join in the celebrations. Dee’s arrival, scheduled for midday, will be shown on a jumbo screen, and she will give a press conference at 1320.

All vessels wishing to enter Ocean Village Marina on Sunday 21 May should call VHF Channel 80 before proceeding towards the marina. Access will be restricted at the time of Aviva’s approach and during Dee’s homecoming celebrations.
