Thieves stole all the radio equipment and most of the medical and rescue kit
A Search and Rescue team is ‘temporarily out of action’ after thieves made off with thousands of pounds worth of life-saving kit.
On the afternoon of 24 September, it was discovered that Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Search and Rescue’s (YALSAR) incident command unit (ICU) vehicle has been
broken into at the team’s storage facility.
The thieves gained access to the vehicle and made off with thousands of
pounds worth of equipment including VHF radios, laptop computer,
medical grab-bag with AED and oxygen and four swift water rescue kits.
Due to the damage caused gaining entry the vehicle is unusable. An appeal for equipment or funds has been launched to get the team back up and running.
A YALSAR spokesman said the team was ‘temporarily out of action due to theft’ and added: ‘Whilst
the thieves didn’t manage to steal the vehicle, they did gain access
and made off with thousands of pounds worth of equipment including VHF
radios, laptop computer, medical grab-bag with AED and oxygen and four
swift water rescue kits.’
On the team’s YALSAR Facebook page it states: ‘We have only raised about £200 so far, still £11,800 to go. Please help, text YLSR00£2 to 70070 or donate via the website.’
