Detail:
Riddle of the Sands is a classic spy adventure novel written by Erskine Childers in 1903, and was adapted for film in 1979. The plot centres around two British Yachtsmen sailing around the Frisian Islands in an attempt to first discover and then to thwart a German Plot to invade the UK. Lloyd Shepherd and Tim Wright have set up a Riddle of the Sands Adventure Club. As part of that Lloyd and Tim aim to walk, cycle and sail the route from Flensburg to Ostamahorn in September & October 2015 using only the book as their guide – stopping when night falls in one chapter and continuing the journey the next day, starting from the very next sentence in the book, in the exact same time frame as the novel itself. They are keeping an open Logbook (Blog) detailing their preparations, alongside highly engaging podcasts, and a Handbook which will cover all the topics, ideas, historical objects, locations and themes found within Riddle of the Sands.
Copies of both the Book and the DVD will be available for sale in the shop on the day.
