Paralympic gold medallist, Helena Lucas will make a special guest appearance at this weekend’s inaugural Poole Harbour Boat Show.
Free live music and fireworks will be among the attractions when the first ever Poole Harbour Boat Show gets under way this Saturday, 9 May.
The two-day event will be held on Poole Quay, and at the award-winning marina Poole Quay Boat Haven, celebrating the rich and varied boating business present in the town and offering family-focused entertainment.
PBO Project Boat Hantu Biru will be on display throughout the two-day show. Visit us at berth A23 at Poole Quay Boat Haven to meet the team and find out more about this restored wreck – and what we’ll be doing with her next!
Paralympic champion Helena will be attending the show on Sunday, 10 May, and will be at the ‘Sunseeker Sessions’ live music stage from 11am to talk about her nautical career and meet with visitors.
The 2.4mR keelboat sailor, who became Britain’s first-ever Paralympic sailing gold medallist at the London 2012 Games, was recently announced as the first British athlete to be selected for the Rio 2016 Games.
Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) chief executive, Jim Stewart said: ‘We are so excited that Helena will have a presence at our first Poole Harbour Boat Show.
‘With an unparalleled record, her achievements have been part of a monumentally successful undertaking for Team GB.
‘We wish her all the best for her attempts for a second gold medal at Rio in 2016, and are thrilled to welcome her on-board as our special guest at the Poole Harbour Boat Show 2015.’
Helena added: ‘I look forward to joining PHC and the exhibitors of the Poole Harbour Boat Show. It’s such an exciting time for Poole, with the port being internationally recognised as host of the international Maritime Day in 2017, and there are so many exciting events taking place over the weekend, it’s a real chance to be immersed in what promises to be a spectacular weekend.’
PHC were inspired by other successful regional boat shows like the Jersey Boat Show, to launch Poole Harbour Boat Show. It aims to build up the anticipation for Poole hosting European Maritime Day in 2017.
Supported by the Borough of Poole and Poole Tourism, this weekend’s event will include on-the-water activities courtesy of the local yacht clubs, and involvement from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
TS Pelican and Stavros S Niarchos will also be alongside the Quay and open to the public at dedicated times. Exhibitors also include Sunseeker, Fairline, Windy, Stingher Ribs, Bayliner and Sealine.
