A series of special sailing regattas are being held on England’s largest lake this summer.

The events, run in conjunction with Windermere Marina Village and the Windermere Cruising Association, have been attracting more than 25 sailing boats at a time.

A mix of yachts, with sizes varying between 20ft and 40ft, have been taking to the water to compete in the Sailing Regatta Series, with the iconic Langdale Pikes to the north and picturesque wooded hills and rolling fells to the south.

Following sessions in May and June, organisers are looking forward to holding further events on Saturday 13 July, Saturday 17 August and Saturday 28 September
 
Dan Fairweather, marina manager, says: ‘Windermere’s Sailing Regatta Series is a really family-friendly introduction to sailing events and always stokes up some healthy competition.

‘Whether you’re gliding across the water in a boat, or cheering on the vessels as they cross the start line while you relax by the lakeside, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon finding out more about sailing and meeting some likeminded people.

‘Every session is rounded off by a gathering at the boathouse for the final result, so it’s a really social, enjoyable way to spend a summer’s afternoon in some unrivalled natural surroundings.’

Commodore of Windermere Cruising Association (WCA) Paul Helsby added: ‘The WCA is delighted to collaborate with the Windermere Marina Village to stage the regatta as part of our club’s full and vibrant summer racing and events calendar.

‘To see so many likeminded people out on the lake enjoying their passion for sailing is at the heart of our club’s values and a spectacle to behold for onlookers mesmerised by the action.’

The Sailing Regatta Series is open to anyone with a yacht moored at Windermere Marina Village, as well as members of Windermere Cruising Association.

Meanwhile, members of the public are encouraged to watch the action get underway from the shoreline.

Centrally located near Bowness, Windermere Marina Village has 400 moorings for sailing boats and motor cruisers.
