Guernsey Police say the French crew of the yacht Jouvente answered their bail this week and enquiries are continuing into the death of their crewmate.

Rene Morvan, 63, fell overboard from the
yacht on Saturday 11 May off Pleinmont, Guernsey and his body was discovered on the French coast just over a week later.

Police arrested the skipper and two other crewmates of Jouvente because they took three and three quarter hours to report the incident.

The yacht was fully equipped with a radio and flares yet no call was made and the man overboard was not reported until the yacht moored up at St Peter Port in the early hours of Sunday 12 May.

The trio were released on bail and allowed to return home to France. This week they returned to the island. No charges have been made and their bail has been extended.

Inspector Trevor Coleman, of Guernsey Police, said: ‘Earlier this week the crew answered their bail at Guernsey Police Headquarters.

‘The skipper of the vessel was interviewed. The crew were then released for a further period of police bail.

‘Nobody has been charged an offence. Police enquiries are continuing.’
