A shoreline search has begun this morning for a missing light aircraft which disappeared from radar yesterday.
Lytham St Anne Coastguard, Blackpool and Fylde Borough Council Beach Patrol units started shore line searches early this morning in the Blackpool coastal area.
As a result of yesterday’s extensive search over a 45 square nautical mile area by UK Coastguard Rescue teams (Lytham St Anne), several RNLI lifeboats (from Lytham St Anne, Blackpool and Fleetwood), the Southport Rescue Independent lifeboat and two helicopters (the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter based at Caernarfon and the police helicopter based at Warton) debris and fuel spillage was found off the coast.
Matthew West, duty controller at the UK Coastguard said: ‘Shoreline searches have started this morning and we are now looking at handing over to the Air Accident Investigation Branch and Lancashire Police.’
