A yacht was towed to safety after running out of fuel in becalmed conditions off the Yorkshire coast.

The

Flamborough volunteer lifeboat crew were paged at 6.45pm on Saturday,
having received a request for help from the two male yacht crew.

The vessel, which was anchored near South Landing, had
run out of fuel and could not sail back due to a lack of wind.

The inshore lifeboat came alongside the vessel and secured a tow line to bring them back to
Bridlington harbour.

On route just offshore from North beach, the crew received a call
from the Coastguard to say that they had received information that there was a lot of debris floating around in the
sea off North Landing so they asked if the lifeboat could leave the
yacht at anchor and investigate.

On
arrival at the scene, the crew picked up a gas cylinder, buoys from the
end of lobster pots and a palate they then proceeded to head back to the
yacht, picked up the tow again and took them back to their mooring in
Bridlington harbour.

Martin Myhill, volunteer crew member said: ‘We were out on the shout
for two hours in total; luckily it was a calm sunny day and all went well.’
