A yacht abandoned by a Russian sailor who was rescued in storms off the coast of Norfolk is still beached at Scroby Sands – three months later.
The yacht Olivia sparked two RNLI call outs in a week last December but after the second rescue the boat could not be recovered.
Caister Lifeboat in Great Yarmouth posted pictures this week on their Facebook page, showing the beached yacht at Scroby sandbank.
The lifeboat volunteers at Caister attended the first call for help last December, when the yachtsman had injured his right hand.
Six days later, Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Lifeboat was called to Scroby Sands, when the yacht Olivia had got into difficulties again and run aground on the sandbank.
They tried to tow the yacht off, but weather conditions made it impossible, so the sailor was rescued, and the yacht abandoned.
A Caister Lifeboat spokesman said: ‘You might remember in December we helped a Russian man who was in difficulties in storms off Caister. Well, his boat ended up abandoned on Scroby Sand Bank, and now is filling up with sand, being buried by the storms and waves.’
