For those who are yet to experience it, here’s a day out that’s well worth discovering, full of nautical bargains and access to Beaulieu’s National Motor Museum and other attractions – all included in the ticket price.

This year, Beaulieu Boatjumble will take place on Sunday 24 April.

With thousands of new and used boating goods, Boatjumble products range from big-name brands, many at special show offer prices, to bargains in the Trunk Traders area where amateur jumblers can clear out their lockers, sheds and garages of boating bits to sell from car boots.

Beaulieu spokesperson Jane Riddiford encouraged would-be treasure hunters to get there early as trading is always brisk!

She said: ‘We look forward to the 39th Beaulieu Boatjumble this year. Trunk Traders continues to be a very popular part of the event, where those with even a limited amount of items to sell have an affordable way to become part of the Boatjumble experience. Trunk Trader stands are just £35 and include admission to the event for two people.’

Regular Trunk Trader, Ian Wilson from the New Forest, said: ‘If it exists, you’ll find it at Beaulieu… you just have to track it down! I have been coming to the Beaulieu Boatjumble for more than 30 years and like Trunk Traders because it’s entertaining and profitable. To become a Trunk Trader you just need to take a few bits and pieces you would have left in the shed and it gets you into the event early, so you can pick up the best bargains.’

John Hearne travels all the way from Country Cork in Ireland to the Beaulieu Boatjumble.

He said: ‘I’ve lived back in Ireland for 20 years but still come to Beaulieu for the Boatjumble because it’s the best event to go to. It’s very easy to sell a few things as a Trunk Trader and it’s a good day out. Finding a bargain makes the whole trip worthwhile.’

Meanwhile, the Boatmall – also known as Beaulieu’s nautical high street – has the latest products from manufacturers displaying trailerable yachts, dinghies, motorboats, accessories, clothing and services.

If you are looking for a used boat, Boatmart offers an opportunity to browse around a wide range of used craft for sale, from classics to nearly-new and project boats.

Ask the Experts LIVE! For the second year running, PBO will be building on the success of our Ask the Experts pages by offering free practical demonstrations and talks, plus the chance to quiz a diverse range of experts with your boating questions.

Last year, Beaulieu visitor Wil Bailey said on the YBW forum: ‘Best value of the day, I reckon, was the multiple Ask The Experts sessions in the PBO marquee, where I was able to get “real world” answers to some current thorny probs – each one of which will save me time and money worth rather more than the price of admission.’

We are teaming up with Beaulieu once again to host the PBO Ask the Experts Live! marquee area from 9.30am to 4.30pm – see the full schedule below.

Beaulieu’s events manager, Judith Maddox, said: ‘The Ask the Experts feature, introduced by the show’s sponsor Practical Boat Owner last year, was a great success and will be repeated again this year. It offers show visitors an opportunity to take part in hands-on demonstrations, learn top tips and get the answers to burning boating questions from a team of leading marine specialists.’

The Classic Motor Boat Association will be putting on their traditional display of members’ classic boats and antique outboard engines.

Members will also be on hand to talk to visitors about the activities of the association, whose aim is to promote the affordable preservation and enjoyment of classic runabouts, racing boats and engines through active rallies around the UK.

How much do the tickets cost?

Ticket prices are £8.70 for adults and £6.50 for children (aged 5-17) if booked in advance by 8 April – £1 extra thereafter.

Admission is not only to the Boatjumble but also to all Beaulieu attractions including the National Motor Museum, with its new display area Driving Change, plus On Screen Cars, World of Top Gear, Beaulieu Abbey and Palace House.

The Boatmall and Boatmart are open to visitors from 9am and the Boatjumble from 10am, with the show closing at 5pm.

A free delivery service will drop your heavier purchases to your car park on request.

9.30am-10am: Liferaft demonstration

Andy Cook of Viking Life-Saving Equipment will be demonstrating liferaft inflation, discussing the importance of getting your safety equipment serviced. He will be on hand to give advice on all aspects of marine safety and to answer servicing questions.

10.30am: Cooking on board

David Wells from South Devon College will be demonstrating how tasty, inventive dishes such as smoked haddock cream kedgeree can be prepared on just one or two gas burners in limited galley space.

11am-11.20am: preparing your boat for long-distance cruising

The World Cruising Club will present practical ideas and top tips gleaned from 30 years of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.

11.30am-11.50am: buying and selling boats

Paul Singer of British Marine South West will be sharing top tips and revealing the pitfalls of buying and selling boats, while his colleague Cory Cuff from Bartons Solicitors will be offering advice about some of the legal pitfalls.

12pm-12.45pm: Varnishing made easy

International Paint’s chemist Kate Moss returns to Ask the Experts LIVE!, this time to share her knowledge on how to prepare for and apply varnish on boats.

1pm-1.45pm: Effective epoxy

An expert on WEST SYSTEM Epoxy from Wessex Resins will return to Experts LIVE! to demonstrate the safe and effective handling of epoxy products in the repair and fit-out of wood and glassfibre on your boat.

2pm-2.45pm: Engine maintenance

Golden Arrow Marine’s Dave Hill will return to Ask the Experts LIVE! for a second year with a practical demonstration on how to keep diesel engines in tip-top shape.

3pm-3.20pm: Gas Safety

Marine gas engineer Peter Draper of Nautigas will be sharing his 40 years (and ongoing) experience.

3.30pm-4pm: sealant tips and tricks

Sika’s technical services expert Gareth Ross returns to Ask the Experts LIVE! for a second year to demonstrate how to use sealants for bonding and waterproofing on board.

4.10pm: Cooking on board

For his second easy but inventive boat meal recipe, David Wells from South Devon College will be making king prawn marinated with oranges, couscous salad, plus another surprise dish.
