Radio 4 in the morning. Cruising Association in the evening

A sailors who achieved a non-stop circumnavigation of the Americas in old Alvin Vega yacht will be sharing tales of his adventures tomorrow.

Matt Rutherford won the Ocean Cruising
Club’s 2012 Jester Medal for a ‘meritorious voyage’, around north and south America in his boat St Brendan, which
by the time it arrived was tied together with pieces of string.

On ‘Mid Week’, Radio 4, tomorrow, from 9am to 9.30am, Matt will join Libby Purves and her other guests. Expect to
hear a little over five minutes discussion about Matt’s amazing journey.

That’s not enough time to appreciate a
voyage that included Arctic fog, rogue waves, equipment failures, knock downs,
close encounters with freighters and even being becalmed for 12 hours in sight
of journey’s end.

If you’d like to hear more about this
incredible voyage, Matt will be talking at length at the Cruising Association’s
Headquarters, hard by Limehouse Basin on the Thames, tomorrow evening.

From 7pm through to 10pm, a few tickets are still available at £15, which include a
buffet supper. The ticket price also includes a donation to Matt’s nominated
charity. Doors open at 1800 and the bar will be available.

If you’re interested in

Passage or would just like to
