Seaway Yachts scoop accolade for hybrid marine craft design

Seaway Yachts has won The Royal Thames Mansura
Trophy for its pioneering work on the development of the Greenline 33 Hybrid
and Greenline 40 Hybrid yachts.

Prizes were presented today at a reception at the
Royal Thames Yacht Club, in Knightsbridge, London.

PBO readers will recognise the 33 (pictured) as winner
of the 2010 PBO Green Award.

The Greenline low-drag hulls are powered by
a hybrid diesel-electric engine system as well as solar technology.

You can see a 33 this weekend at the Henley
& Wargrave Boat Show at the Val Wyatt Marine site at Willow Marina, Wargrave, Berkshire.

Alternatively, take a trip to the Sandbanks
Boat Show on 11 and 12 May at Salterns Marina, Poole.

Seaway, based in Slovenia, has sold more
than 300 of the 33 model and have high hopes for the new 40.

Jane Haas, of UK distributor Salterns
Marine, accepted the trophy from Hubert Hoeller, the managing director of event
sponsors Bosch Engineering GmbH.

Jane said: ‘I am honoured and delighted to
accept this international award on behalf of Seaway today.

‘I’d like to thank the Royal
Thames YC, the trustees of the Mansura Trophy and Bosch Engineering for
recognising the importance of this unique hybrid diesel electric craft.’

Category awards were won by the
HyMar team and their test-bed yacht Armorel, Solar Sailor Holdings for their
Hong Kong ferries, Hydrogen Boats for their Bristol ferry, the River Stour
Trust for their hybrid lighter conversion and Grove Boats for the Solar Sea
Cleaner 400.

PBO editor Sarah Norbury attended today’s
awards and will provide further details in the next issue of PBO.

The Mansura Trophy, inaugurated in 2006, is
a biennial international competition to identify and reward excellence in the
design, development and operation of hybrid marine craft.

The bronze trophy, depicting the tiller
head of the 1912 hybrid motor yacht Mansura, was donated by Julian
Delmar-Morgan, grandson of the yacht’s designer and owner, and David Barratt.
