Early morning start for lifeboat volunteers in challenging conditions

The volunteer crew from Alderney RNLI launched this morning to help two sailors onboard a drifting German yacht.

Alderney’s Trent class lifeboat Roy Barker I and RNLI boarding boat set off at 6:05am to help the two people on board the 36ft German yacht Loki, which had broken away from her mooring and was drifting in Braye Harbour.

In severe sea conditions, driving snow and easterly force nine winds, gusting to storm force, the stricken visiting yacht was rounded up and by 6:45am was safely secured alongside Commercial Quay.
