Bob Hatcher’s Avon Redcrest dinghy wheeler has given sterling service for 20 years
Here’s my solution for those who still own ancient but trusty Avon Redstart and Redcrest dinghies.
I rigged this 20 years ago by fitting a pair of wheels to the top of the original outboard bracket, and apart from having to fit one new pair of wheels I have had no problems.
When used on an Avon the curved frame of the bracket sits around the dinghy’s transom tube, secured by the original rubber fittings. It might also work around the nose of more modern dinghies with solid transoms, but you would need to improvise your own fittings.
Arrive at the slip, unship the outboard if you were using it, capsize the rubber duck and go: it’s as simple as that.
