Engine fails on Brighton approach
A solo sailor in his sixties has been rescued by the RNLI after his engine failed and he became injured while attempting to set his sails.
Many members of the public called 999 as the 45-foot ketch was pounded against the wall of Brighton Marina on Thursday afternoon.
When the lifeboat launched the crew found the yacht’s skipper lying on the foredeck, unable to move.
In more than three metre waves and a force six on-shore wind, the boat suffered significant damage and the lifeboat crew dragged it clear of the wall.
Once inside the marina, the shaken and cold yacht skipper was put into an ambulance and it is believed he was taken to hospital.
