Wind whips up the sea
An Aberdeen fishing village has been covered with white foam after Scotland’s north-east coast was battered by wind and rain.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) says the foam, which has covered the Footdee area of the city, is because natural matter in the sea, such as phytoplankton, has been whipped into a foam by the wind.
A spokesperson for Aberdeen City Council said: ‘The spume at Footdee was blown in off the sea. It will dissipate naturally and is in the meantime being washed away by the rain.
‘Members of the environment team will go and sweep the area out once the foam has cleared. There are no environmental concerns about it.’
