Arbroath Sea Fest takes place around the town’s harbour on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14. As part of the event’s 20th anniversary celebrations, there’s live music from several of the top bands in the area, including KJB, 2 Wheels Good and Miami Vince, who are playing from 5pm until 7pm at the first ever Arbroath Sea Fest late night opening.

The Saturday of Sea Fest weekend also features the heats of the highly competitive Strongman and Strongwoman competitions, a performance by the fabulous Showcase The Street dancers and a thrilling demonstration rescue by Arbroath’s RNLI Lifeboat and crew.

On Sunday, August 14, the live music begins with a medley of tunes from Arbroath Sea Cadet Band, followed by music from Buck Rodgers, Headroom and Mad Ferrets, with a finale on the quayside in the late afternoon by Arbroath Instrumental Band. In addition, the famous Sea Fest Pie Eating Competition, which is sponsored by Robertson’s Butchers, will find out who is the quickest to eat all the pies, while the finals of the Strongman and Strongwoman competition are to be held throughout the afternoon.

And after Sunday’s thrilling lifesaving demonstration by Arbroath RNLI, Sea Fest takes to the waves once again at 2pm with the annual raft race across the harbour.
The raft race is followed by a cookery demonstration by Arbroath’s Masterchef: The Professionals winner, Jamie Scott. Jamie is also judging Sea Fest’s first bakery competition, which can be entered simply by taking home-baked goodies along to Sea Fest by 2pm on Sunday, August 14.

Sunday afternoon also features the return of one of the most fondly remembered activities from early Arbroath Sea Fests – the Fishers’ Wedding, which is to be re-enacted by members of Thomson Leng Musical Society and Youth Musical Theatre.

“At least 20 of our members will be taking part in the Fishers’ Wedding,” explained Stuart Young of Thomson Leng Musical Society. “It will be quite a sight as we parade around the harbour in outfits similar to those worn by Arbroath fisher folk in days gone by, accompanied by the traditional, toe tapping sounds of the fiddle, telling the story of a fisher wedding.”

Entry to Arbroath Sea Fest 2016 is £4 (£2 concessions, under-5s free, parking £2). Gates open 10am and close 7pm on Saturday, August 13; 5pm on Sunday, August 14.
