The Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI crew assisted a man who was trapped onboard a small boat in Glenelg bay due to very high winds and large swell.

The lifeboat launched seven minutes later and made best speed through the rough conditions, arriving on scene at 6.40pm.

A Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI spokesman said: ‘The crew quickly found the male, who was unable to get off the small vessel due to the very high winds and large swell. They quickly transferred the man onboard the lifeboat and headed for the jetty in Glenelg.

‘However due to the conditions and debris in the water, the lifeboat was unable to get alongside and it was decided to transfer the gentleman to the Glenelg Ferry slipway.’

The crew then returned to Kyle where the boat was refuelled and made ready for service by 7.10pm.

The daughter of the rescued man, commented on the Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI Facebook page: ‘Only dad! He said he wasn’t bothered as he had his flask and some chocolate and he’d have waited until lunch time [on Thursday] for it to die down! Quite pleased he was helped ashore!’
