Hosted by Lymington Town SC in September
The first Contessa 26 National Championship will be hosted by Lymington Town Sailing Club from September 21-23 2012.
The inaugural event will take place alongside the Contessa 32’s national championship with a joint social programme.
Contessa 32 owner Mark Oliver first suggested the idea in Cowes last summer and Mike Harrison, the Contessa 26 owner entrusted with overseeing the championship, said that he was delighted by the ‘big brother’s’ idea, as the fleets have ‘the same issues and opportunities and by organising a joint event we can both benefit from larger numbers’.
The event has been billed as a ‘racing rally’ to suit both the fleet’s serious racers and its cruisers, with one round-the-cans race on the Friday, two windward/leeward races on the Saturday and a final race on Sunday.
There will be a class handicap system to accommodate the class’ variations and there will also be a non-spinnaker division.
Race documents and entry forms are available soon and more information can be found at www.contessa26.net.
