Eddie Izzard among the cast of seagoing classic
Seafaring swashbuckler Treasure Island hit television screens on New Year’s Day with the first part of a new adaptation appearing on Sky One from 7pm.
Eddie Izzard, Philip Glenister, Elijah Wood and Rupert Penry-Jones were among the cast, retelling the tale of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 adventure book.
It tells the story of Jim Hawkins, who discovers Captain Flint’s treasure map and then races Long John Silver to find the buried booty.
Treasure Island is responsible for much of the imagery of pirates, such as treasure maps marked by an ‘X’, wooden legs and shoulder-sitting parrots.
The second part of the series airs on Sky One on January 2 at 7pm.
