Divers and fishermen consulting now – but leisure sailors must wait until February
Dutch developers Eneco are in the process of holding consultation meetings and open days about their planned Navitus Bay Wind Park off the coast of Dorset and west of the Isle of Wight.
Last weekend, open days took place north of Bournemouth to show the general public what the project would entail.
This week, special interest consultation events are being held from 5.30pm-8pm (presentations 6-7pm), at:
Quay Thistle Hotel, Poole
• Sport Sea Divers: Tuesday 22 November *TONIGHT*
• Fishing Community: Wednesday 23 November
Mudeford Lifeboat Station, Mudeford Quay
• Fishing Community: Thursday 24 November
Consultation events geared towards the leisure sailing community are earmarked for February 2012, with exact dates likely to be confirmed before the end of this year.
Boat owners are concerned that the proposed siting of the 150-240 turbines could edge into the route commonly sailed between the eastern side of the Isle of Wight and Dorset when skirting south of the island. Eneco is consulting with representatives including the RYA.
Subject to consents, construction of the wind park is scheduled to begin in 2016, with it being fully operational by 2019.
Information on the scheme can be accessed at www.navitusbaywindpark.co.uk.
