Poole headquarters opens to public
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is preparing to welcome the public to its headquarters in Poole this coming weekend, for an ideal family day (or two) out.
The charity will be opening its headquarters and The Lifeboat College, where the charity’s lifeboat crews and lifeguards train. There will be exciting displays, demonstrations and tours, plus lots of fun activities for children.
Additionally, the charity will be opening the doors to its brand new shop in The Lifeboat College and there will be a chance to see a variety of RNLI historical items, including model lifeboats and medals on display in the refurbished reception area.
Graham Blair, RNLI National Exhibitions and Events Manager, says: ‘The RNLI HQ Open Weekend is a great opportunity for anyone to come along and find out more about the charity – what it does, how it works and how it uses the generous public donations it receives to save lives at sea.
‘Our volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards will be there to talk about the specialist training they go through and their lifesaving work. There will be lifeboat and lifeguard demonstrations, sea survival pool demonstrations, tours, and displays covering all aspects of the RNLI, so we hope there will be something for everyone.
‘Many people have seen RNLI lifeboats and RNLI lifeguards around the coastline, and now we’re offering them the chance to see for themselves what goes on behind the scenes. We look forward to welcoming people this weekend.’
