Sun-drenched event drew thousands

An excellent day was had by all at the annual Beaulieu BoatJumble on Sunday 17 April. The PBO-sponsored event took place on a spectacularly sunny day, and the crowds were out in force to enjoy the warm weather and pick up some boating bargains.

Over 9,000 visitors enjoyed the glorious sunshine and exhibitors reported good trade, with very few people going home empty-handed. Sale items ranged from complete boats to small chandlery items, and nearly 800 stands were open for business on the day. This year the Trunk Traders area had been enlarged, and over a hundred amateur jumblers were busy selling on their surplus sailing items from their car boots.

One particularly lucky visitor was Norman Brent from Hedge End, Hampshire, who has been announced as the winner of the popular PBO / Navionics / Beaulieu ‘Win an iPad 3G’ competition. Hundreds of people entered on the day, with the winner picked by Lord Montagu of Beaulieu himself.

There was also a Land Rover Experience Trailer Handling competition which gave visitors the opportunity to win an afternoon’s adventure on a C-Fury by manoeuvring a 15ft trailer with C-Fury rib.

The Lymington Coastguard helicopter made its annual fly-past on the morning of the event, and Aqua Zorb proved hugely popular, with visitors walking on water in giant transparent balls. Many also took the opportunity to explore the historic stately home and its numerous attractions.

The 35th Beaulieu BoatJumble is set to take place next year on Sunday 29 April 2012.
