Disabled sailor and local Sailability honoured

Transatlantic record-breaker Geoff Holt has been immortalised on the face of three stamps issued by the Government of the British Virgin Islands.

Holt, who was paralysed in a diving accident there 25 years ago, helped establish the RYA Sailability charity in the UK in 1995. The programme has now spread worldwide.

Last year he sailed back to the scene of his accident in a 3,000-mile epic voyage. He has since been judged sailor of the year and awarded the MBE.

The BVI government invited him, along with his family, back to share the postal honour with the islands’ Sailability group.

He said: ‘Who ever thinks they are going to be on a stamp? It’s very kind of them.’
