When servicing winches, it’s tempting to put on loads of grease to keep them from corrosion – but don’t! As it ages, it gets sticky, which attracts salt and grime – causing the winch to gum up over the year. It’s better to apply small quantities of grease – dedicated winch grease is best, and it’s lighter than stern gland grease, which will help stop it gum up.
