The Pelle P Kip Regatta, the first ‘major’ regatta of the sailing season, takes to the River Clyde on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14 May from Kip Marina, Inverclyde.
New for 2017 are title sponsors Pelle P, the iconic Swedish technical and leisure-wear company. The clothing company Pelle P is based on the lifestyle of Pelle Petterson and his accomplishments as a top level sportsman. Pelle’s sailing career has given him two Olympic medals and dozens of World Championship medals in sailing. He is also a two-time challenger in the America’s Cup. Pelle P have a long tradition of innovative design led sail, ski and leisure clothing which are already taking the Scottish market by storm.
Traditionally a good testing ground for race boats new to the Clyde, the Pelle P Kip Regatta is also an opportunity for locally experienced crews to work their boats up ready for Scottish Series later in May and the long standing partnership between Kip and Royal Western Yacht Club with their expert race management skills, provides exhilarating racing for sailors of all abilities.
Each year the regatta has race classes for IRC, CYCA and the usual array of one designs – Sigma 33, Sonata, Etchells etc., with the White Sail fleet catered for with courses around fixed marks. For 2017 a dedicated Sports Boats section has been added increasing the excitement and appeal of this already well supported season opener.
Shore side The Chartroom Restaurant & Bar plays host to the après sail events with the Pelle P Party on Saturday night featuring live music from the amazing Earl Blue & the Sessions and a waterside barbecue. On Sunday it is the venue for the prestigious prize giving ceremony when the successful skippers and crews are recognised and rewarded. For the early riser Café Riva also provides great breakfasts and pre-ordered lunch packs for hungry sailors throughout the weekend.
For race entrants Kip Marina is providing special packages for hoisting, berthing and storage for boats both prior to and after the event.
