The quickest way to spot engine cooling failure
Water-cooled exhausts are common on leisure boats and in the event of water intake blockage, will overheat and trigger an alarm, if fitted, in as little as 5 seconds. It can take the engine’s cooling water alarm much longer to sound by which time the water pump impeller and exhaust hose may be damaged. (For Pat Manley’s full tip, see PBO Summer issue, page 65)
