Check the stern gland periodically
If motoring for a long time, it’s worth putting the engine in neutral from time to time and checking the stern gland. Whatever type it is, it shouldn’t get hot. If it is, apply more grease, or if you have a deep-sea-seal type gland, ‘burp’ it to remove air. Next time you get ashore, check it ifor damage.
