The curve of a boat’s gunwale or top strake when
viewed from the side. The Sheer plan is a drawing of the side elevation. A conventional sheer runs down from a high point at
the stem, reaches its lowest somewhere near amidships or a little aft of that,
and then rises again towards the stern. A hogged sheer is the reverse -
hump-backed and piglike.
