Collision between yacht and inflatable being towed by speedboat may have been caught on camera
A 14-year-old from Basildon is in critical condition after colliding with a yacht while being towed on an inflatable ring behind a speedboat.
The accident happened at around 3.30pm on Sunday near Levington Marina on the River Orwell in Suffolk.
Ipswich harbourmaster Capt John Wooley said police had asked to view the CCTV films. He told the East Anglian Daily Times website: “They want to see the film and although the incident may be small and in the distance they are hoping it will help their investigation.”
Rebecca Coles, 14, was taken by ambulance to Ipswich Hospital and later transferred to Addenbrookes suffering a fractured skull and a broken leg.
Twenty-five-degree temperatures over the weekend meant the river was very busy. One eyewitness told the BBC: “The girl was with a group of about half a dozen people, adults and children. “It was very busy out on the water yesterday. There was no room to manoeuvre.”
Suffolk Police are still appealing for eyewitnesses to come forward.
