A 67-year-old man who died after being washed overboard has been named. Adrian Ernest Piggford of Cheapside, Waltham, was swept into the North Sea on Sunday along with two other crewmembers, including the skipper. The fourth crewmember, a 73-year-old man, managed to raise the alert, prompting an air-sea rescue by Humber Coastguard.
Rig support vessel Putford Provider was first on the scene, 30 miles east of Spurn Point, followed by a rescue helicopter from RAF Leconfield. All three casualties were located and lifted from the water, but sadly Mr Piggford died in hospital.
