Do you know any promising young sailors who should be celebrated?
A new award will be turning the spotlight on Britain’s most promising young sailors, windsurfers and powerboaters.
The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) has launched the Regional Youth Champion Awards to enable clubs, class associations and individuals to recognise the outstanding achievement and performance of young people across a range of on-the-water activities.
RYA chief executive, Sarah Treseder said: ‘We’re delighted to open the first ever RYA Regional Youth Champion Awards.
‘2013 has seen some fantastic performances across the sports and these awards are the perfect way to celebrate our most talented young sailors, windsurfers, powerboaters and jet skiers.’
RYA youth racing manager Duncan Truswell, said: ‘To achieve in our sport takes commitment, application and lots of determination.
‘Across the UK, independent young people are achieving amazing things whilst being responsible for themselves as well as their equipment, in a challenging and dynamic environment.
‘These awards are not only an ideal way to celebrate their hard work but to remind volunteers and parents about the great things that our sport offers young people and why their continued effort and support is so worthwhile.’
All the winners and their families will be invited to the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show for the official award ceremony where the trophies will be presented. Nominations close on 30 January.
Nominees must be under 19 years of age on 31 December 2013. From the nominations received, each of the RYA’s 13 regional committees will select a regional winner.
