Narrowboat company, Propeller maker and IPC on the podium
Eleven teams from all corners of the marine industry hit the water yesterday to compete in the 2011 Marine Industry Regatta.
Held in Sunsail Racing’s brand-new fleet of First 40s, the crews motored out of Portsmouth Harbour to be met by little breeze and a postponement. The committee eventually got a race underway in a shifty 5 knot breeze, which weakened halfway down the second leg, leaving the boats edging slowly towards the newly shortened race’s finish line at the leeward mark. The committee waited in vain for the breeze to fill in and let them get in another race, but called it a day as the instruments stayed under 3 knots.
So the event was decided after one closely-fought race. The team from Beacon Park Boats finished first, with Bruntons Propellers second and a team from IPC Media, with three PBO editorial staff on board, third.
