You’d be forgiven for thinking that recycling mobile phones and empty print cartridges has nothing to do with sailing.

But as raw materials for recycling companies, these items, which most of us just throw in the bin, are worth money.

So by donating your rubbish, you can effectively make a donation to a charity – such as the RYA’s disabled sailing group Sailability – or to the environmental organisation Green Blue, winner of ‘best campaign’ prize in the 2009 PBO Green Awards.

And in this month’s PBO there’s a postage paid envelope for you to use to send in your old mobile phone of empty inkjet cartridges made by Samsung, HP, Lexmark, Canon and Dell.
