Hampshire police have named the man whose body was found in water off East Cowes, Isle of Wight as Nigel Robert Greenyer, aged 63, from Godalming, Surrey.
Mr Greenyer was wearing sailing clothing when he was found close to the East Cowes shore of the River Medina, a few metres from the floating bridge at 8.50am on Sunday morning.
Newport and Bembridge coastguard rescue teams and Ryde independent rescue team, together with Cowes RNLI lifeboat, were all involved in the Solent Coastguard-co-ordinated search to find the suspected missing yacht, which was located in Cowes Yacht Haven with ‘no one else on board’.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: ‘The body found in East Cowes has been named as Nigel Robert Greenyer (63) from Godalming.’
The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.
