Poole Harbour to host events celebrating half a century of the Wayfarer dinghy
The 50th Anniversary of the famous Wayfarer dinghy is being celebrated at Parkstone Yacht club, Poole 19-30 August. Wayfarer owners from across Europe are expected to take part in cruising events exploring Poole Harbour and nearby areas.
The National Championships follow the cruising activities and take place as part of Poole Week. Sponsors of the events are Navigators and General, and Hartley Laminates, the new builder of the Mark IV version of the Wayfarer.
Linking the two major events will be a Gala Dinner at Parkstone Yacht club on Saturday 23 August, when Roger Proctor, son of Ian Proctor the designer, will reminisce about the great contribution the Wayfarer has made to the popularity of dinghy sailing in the UK and around the world.
A feature of the Gala Dinner will be a Charity auction in aid of Sail4Cancer for which generous contributions have been made by Sailing Holidays Ltd, Pinnell & Bax, Flexible Reefing, Selden, Kwik2Me covers, Seacraft Pottery, Y&Y and Dinghy magazines, Optimum Time and Stylish Stitches.
Wayfarer sailors and supporters are all welcome.
