Practical Boat Owner magazine has written to 646 MPs in its campaign to keep road tax off boat fuel.
From November 2008 the Government has prohibited the sale of commercial, low-duty (red) diesel to leisure users, meaning boat owners will have to pay more.
But it has yet to be decided exactly how much more.
Lobbying MPs could make a difference.
PBO’s solution is simple: leisure boaters continue to fill up with diesel that is dyed red, (as it’s still legal for commercial users), yet pay a higher EU rate – which is half the UK road diesel rate – keeping the receipts as proof.
If this campaign fails, UK boaters will be stuck paying for the most heavily taxed diesel in Europe – UK ‘white’ road diesel.
